P. AND T. DEFEAT TRAMWAYS. Tho Post and Telegraph' Department's team met and defeated the Tramway representatives by 17-points to 9 points on the Athletio Park yesterday. Weather conditions were against good football, and the heavy state of the ground contributed lorgely towards tho success of the Postal team. The P. and T. men wore all lightweights, but were a splendid combination. Tho Tramway employees were heavier and slower than their opponents. [ Soon after the start the Postal team got busy, and their backs did some groat passing, Gray,.Holland, Chesterman, and Anderson being, responsible for perfect combination. Tramways were hard pressed, and during a scrum which followed Holland secured the ball and shot'over tho tine. Troy failed with the kick. P. and T., 3; Tramways, nil. Soon after Anderson took a kick from Griffin, madft a great run, and passed to Moore, who had bad luck in not scoring. Further excellent work by the P. aid T. backs en-, abled Eastgate to score. Troy again failed to convert. P. and T., G; Tramways, nil. The P. and T. team's splendid combination again asserted itself in niul-iicUl, and Chesterman made a great nin, passing to Anderson, who scored. Troy failed to convert. 9—o. On resuming tho Tra.m. way team changed its tactics, and played an open game., A breach by tho P. and T. gave tho Tramway men a free kick, and Griffin placed tho ball between the posts, 9-3. Immediately following, Troy kicked a penalty goal for Post and Telegraph. 12—3. Tlio Tramway men were tackling hard, but in spite of their efforts the nimble Blacks broko through each timo. From the centre ofythc field Chesterniaii secured the ball and put up "a remarkable run, and thoroughly deserved tho try he scored. Troy converted. 17—3. Following this tho Tramway backs went into an attacking position, and Bowie, quite their best player, got over. Grifiin failed to convert. 17—0. A severe tusslo took place immediately after, right on tho P. and T. goal line, during winch Anderson,who was playing a splendid game, received serious injuries'and had to be carried off the field. l "A scrum five yards out followed, and the P. and T. men temporarily improved their position, but soon after Roderick scored the second try for Tramways. Griffin failed with the kick, and the gamo ended, 17—9. Mr. Roach controlled the game.
