PEACE GATES
WELLINGTON BOWLING CLUB PEOPOSAL. In tlie course of the annual report of the Wellington Bowling Club, the directors say:— "At 'the beginning of the club's year now ended the Empire was figut'ug 1 ard for its existence, and our people were full of anxiety for those engaged in tho war. The efforts of our oldiers and sailors have brought us into such a position that we and our Allies can enforce ti.r.on our enemies just and suitable terms of peaoo. Your -d''rectors consider that the signing of peace terms should not bo allowed to pass without, ■some lasting memento being erected on the club's property to commemorate the glorious result of the war. For this'purpose it has bcui sug-' gested that imposing gates be erected to the .club's property, and the pitce of land adjoining tho pavilion be felled and suitably laid out. If the cost ff this work were raised by voluntary sub'scriptiohs on the part of. shareholders it would be a graceful appreciation of tho efforts of those who won the war, and add a lasting, improvement to tho club's property. The directors recommend the scheme for favourable consideration."
