She was ihiilt last year, and when launched was taken over by tho Admiralty, being dispatched on urgent war service before sho was n'opcrly finished. She was built by Sir K. Dixon and Co., Ltd., at Middlesbrough, and is 6205 tons groBS and 3784 tons net. Her dimensions are:—Length, 400ft.;'breadth, 54ft.; depth, 3Zfl. 2in. The liona, is constructed on the cantilever system,"with topside tanks, and her hollers are so arranged that she can hum cither coal or oil.fuel. Xiilio tho Fiona her machinery is situated aft. The Commonwealth and Dominion Lino announced yesterday that the Port Pirin had been delayed in Australia, she having to go into dry dock at Sydney. Mr. Scriveser was for twelve years with the Union Company, and was one time chief officer of the Kamo. lie intends to innko his home in London. Mr. A. E. l'urvis, first officer on the Fateena, has gone ashore on holiday leave, and his place has been taken by Mr. J. Leonard, iirst mate on the Komata. Mr. W. H. Hughan has 6igned on the Komata in Mr. Leonard's place. Mr? S. O. O'Leary is now chief .engineer of the steamer John, in place of Mr. S. L. Chandler. Mr. A. The Kamona left Limestone Island yesterday afternoon for Wellington with a load of cement and general cargo. The Karamu is to leave for Greymouth to-day, and will, on arrival there, load back to Wellington. The Rosamond is due in port from Timaru to-day, and it is hoped to dispatch her for Napier and Gisborno this afternoon. The steamers Maori, Mararoa, Patcena, Mokoia, Waipori, and Kia Ora are expected to be within wireless range of Wellington to-night. The Maunganui and Waiwera will be within range of the Chatham Islands. The. Kalm left the Chatham Islands at one o'clock yesterday afternoon for Wellington, and she should make port on t'riday night. The schooner Zlngara, which left Newcastle on May 15 for Gishorne, put into Syduey on May 29 through stress of weather. During the heavy weather encountered off the Australian coast the vessel sprang a leak. Tho Zingara, which is a vessel of 185 tons, is loaded with pilea and hardwood poles, whii'.h we're shipped at Glarcncctoivn. The bad weather set in shortly after leaving Newcastle, and the vessel was beset, by south-easterly to easterly winds, blowing with gale force at times. In this untoward weather she was driven as far' north as Lord Howe Island. The revere buffeting the Zingara had been subjected to had the effect of straining.- the vessel, and the captain decided to make for Sydney for survey. The schooner carried tho heavy weather right down to the heads, and bhe was still leaking slightly on arrival at an anchorage in lioee Bay. In his latest progress report, on tho shipbuilding operations, of the Commonwealth, the chief executive officer (Mr, Curchin) states ■ that, whilo the work at Cockatoo Island has been affected by the influenza epidemic, all the "ramework of the Diimliilo, has been completed to tho .upper deck, while .the deck itself and the hatches are complete, and tho work on,the shell ie well in hand. At Walsh Island a start has been made laying .tho ■wood decks of the Delungra. The poop deck is completed, and shipwrights have made a start with the ceiling of the holds, Good progress has beou made during the past mouth with the Dinogra in the plat-' ing department, and fair progress with the Dila.
