WORK IN WELLINGTON
REPATRIATION BOARD ACTION. The repatriation authorities in Wellington have been very successful up till the. present in getting employment !orreturned men in search of work. So successful have they been that an impression has gained some currency in the country districts of the province that there is plenty of work in Wellington for returned men. Some of tho patriotic societies in the country districts have been Bending their men down to Wellington for work when it seemed difficult to place them in their own towns. This matter was mentioned at the meeting of the Repatriation Board in Wellington yesterday by Jlr. David M'Lareu. The secretary was instructed to! -write to the various committees throughout the Wellington province pointing cut to them that both positions and housing accommodation for returned soldiers in Wellington were becoming more difficult to obtain than previously, and asking the local Committees to see that returned soldiers in their districts obtained employment on the spot if possible, and especially to discourage men with families from coming to Wellington at present.
It has been the custom of the patriotic societies in tho country to pay the fares of men coming to Wellington.. It lias happened that these men have had to wait about in Wellington for eome days, and then the local patriotic society has had to pay their fares liack to tho country again. The process is expensive, and it is doing the soldiers no good.
