PETONE MAGISTRATE'S COURT
MONTHLY SITTING'; ' The monthly sitting of the Pelone Magistrate's Court was held yesterday. Messrs. J. ■ W. ,11'Ewau, J. W. Kerr, und W. Coles, J.lYe, occupied the Bench. E. Lawrence, charged with trespassing on the railway tract at Pelone Station, was fined Xi, with costs 7s. Henry Stephen Tovey was charged with being absent from parades of No. 5 Coraliany, Garrison Artillery. It was stated that the defendant's employer had applied for exemption. Captain Keeiian, for the Defence Department said that he did not wish to press for a penalty. A conviction, with costs, would be satisfactory. . Tho application for exemption could be dealt with on its merits after. A conviction, with costs 75., was recorded. A claim for .ill Gs. was made by Janus Fariiuaharson tigniust Edward Cayley for work done. The work, whicji consisted of the erection of a gato and'the making of a small foot-bridge, was dono 'last December. It was contended for the (iei'enco that although the-work had been done it was unsatisfactory. Tho Bench was of opinion that as the work had been carried out and no complaint made by the employer before the termination of the job, Cayley was liable for payment. Judgment for plaintiff for the amount stated, less the amount already paid, with costs, was given. M. J. Lockyer, oh a charge of allowing stock to wander, was fined i ss. imd costs. Edward Humphries wns indicted on two charges of allowing cattie to wander, and was fined 17s. od. on each charge. Judgment for plaintiff, bv default, was given in tho case of the Union Clothing Co. v. B. 0. Harrison, £i 55., with costs ss.
