SOLDIERS' CHILDREN
Sir—Permit me to thank those kindly l'.atured formers who continue to send odd wool for the social work of the Church Army among Jxmdon poor. The need for help iB really greater than ever, because of the high prices of the buronecessaries of life. Last year we spent .£450,000 among these poor, and this year have added tlio care of all children of our lighting men that are being given into our charge. Our headquarters' staff estimate that =C2t),000 will be required for that, time alone this fiuancial year. The. children are placed in real homes —not institutions—under the care of C.A. sisters, and will be cared for as children of men who fell for their country ought to be, and educated for any trade or calling they may be fitted for. , The Government gives the Church Army a subsidy of Bs. each weekly towards the maintenance of these children, the total cost to us being 15s. per week each. The bales, fudges, and ileeces of wool lately sent in to Messrs. Williams and Kettie, Dannevirke and Napier to sell for this patriotic purpose, and other donations, wil help considerably in permitting New Zealand to lake a hand in rearing the children'of the men who fought for us, and did their bit to maintain our grand little country in the position she occupies to-day.—l nm, etc., F. W. WHIBLEY., ' | Hon. Secretary _ C.A. in N.Z. The Vicarage, Ormondrille.
