THE MILK SHORTAGE

PLEA FOR TUB BABY. A Kelburn resident voices a'strong complaint about tho present milk delivery. He has a baby. His neighbour, more fortunate, 1 has twins. Some days ago, he says, his milkman, without warning him, left both him and Ms- neighbour a pint short—a serious ; shortage where the babies were concerned. The following day, also without warning, he was left no'milk at all, and both he and his neighbour had to scour the town for mine, .finally procuring some, at late; hour at." night, at Karori. Then matters returned to, normal, until yesterday, when the milkman informed him that he .was -under strict orders to ration his customers a pint short, and from these instructions he would be unable to depart. '•: The anxious-parent admits the shortage/admits the difficulties of- the milk situation generally, but insists on the claims of the babv. - "If the milk supply is to-be rationed," he contends, ."then the needs of the babies ought to have first consideration. Babies which have been reared on u set diet will suffer if through a deficiency, in the milk supply they have to be put on a different system of diet.' It's- a very serious matter for parents, and I think the City.. cil : ought-to devise:some means-of meeting it."
