TWO TERRITORIAL MARKSMEN
SERGEANT HESTER'S SPLENDID' ' RECORD. Nos. 7 and'B Companies of the Nortn Island Railway Battalion were parhded last evening tor the presentation of trophies won by Sergeant R. E. Hester anil Corporal W. G. fisher (both of No. 7 Company) at the Wellington military district rillo meeting, held at Wanganui very shortly after Easter. Colonel. tfiley (Director of Kailwaj Transput'!) made the (presentations. Amoug the officers present were Lieut. Colonel M'Y'iliy (Assistant Director of Railway Transport) and Major J. MacDonald (officer commanding North Island Railway Battalion).
Colonel liiley expressed his pleasure at Having had an opportunity of meeting the companies before he sailed from New Zealand. He hoped to receive from timo to time information regarding tha com. panies' future activities. He looked forward to the day when the Railway Territorial Battalions would be the smartest Territorial units in both islands. He was very glad indeed to see that the meii in Wellington were taking advantage of the miniature riile range provided by the Department. There was no better sport than rille shooting, and ho hoped tub attendances at the range would bo kept up. Colonel liiley offered his heartiest congratulations to Sergeant Hester and Corporal Fisher. The former's marksmanship, he said, had set u standard that should tend to promote a healthy spirit of emulation throughout the corps.
The trophies won by Sergeant Hestei were as under:—
Wellington District Territorial Championship Belt and gold medal for highest Territorial aggregate at the meeting.
Silver cup for highest .Territorial aggregate in servico matches. Silver teapot for' highest individual aggregate in tho champimship teams' match.
Gold medal for highest Territorial aggregate at 500 and' COO yards ranges.
Corpora) Fisher had won a silver but-ter-dish, offered for the highest Territorial score ai SOO yards.
■In tlio Hilej' Cup vompexltion, open only to Nos. 7 and 8 Companies, Sergeant Hester had won the cup and the gold medal with a score of 108 out of a "possible" of 120. Corporal Fisher had been runner-up witlr 86 points to his credit; he whs awarded a silver medal. No. 7 Company having won the 1919 Levi Cup competition (open to all Bailway companies it\ New Zealand), Colonel Hilej took the opportunity of presenting this trophy to Captain Wright (officer commanding the company).
