The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald returned from his visit to Gisborne last night.

The Hon. G. W.Eussell is going to the South Island to-night to preside at tho capping ceremony at Canterbury Collego on Thursday night. Mr. Kusscll was formerly chairman of the Board of Governors of the college, and he has been invited to preside on this occasion' by the Professorial Board. ' :

Mr. A.. l'\ Turnbull, who has lately returned from active service, is to be secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, in succession to Mr. P. Verschaffelt, who has gone to the Public Trust Office. Before he joined the Expeditionary Force Mr. Turnbull was in the accountancy branch of the Lands Der partment.

Major Alan Muir, son of Mr. L. Muir, proprietor of the "Poverty Bay Herald," is returning to New Zealand next week by the Prinzessin. . Major Muir left New Zealand lis,a second lieutenant.

He was decorated in the field for distinguished conduct, and also held, the Crimean Medal, with three clasps, and tho Turkish Medal.

Brigadier-General A. E. Stewart, D.5.0., who commanded the New Zealand Rifle Brigade in France after the death of Brigadier-General Pulton, is returning by tho Prinzessin, which is due to arrive here on Juno 25.

Mr. J. B. Henry, for twelve years manager of the Bank of New Zealand at. Masterton, has been made inspector of the bank, and will take up his residence at Wellington, our correspondent telegraphs, He will be succeeded at Maslerlon by Mr. J. Chisholru, acting-manager of tho bank at Wa'nganui.

The Rev. J. Eced Glasson, who has resigned the pastorate of the Terrace Congregational Church, after occupying the pulpit for twenty-five years, was born at Helston, Cornwall, being the son of Mr. John Glasson, a yeoman. Completing his studies for the ministry at tho Bristol Theological Institution, a Baptist College, in 1883, Mr.'Glasson was ordained in Manchester, and accepted the pastorate of tho Nursery Street Congregational Church. Twelve months later lie left for the colonies, taking .charge of tho College Park Congregational Church, Adelaide. Ho resided in South Australia for ten years, and in 1890 was elected chairman of the Congregational Union of South Australia. In 1891 he was appointed a delegate to Ihe International Council of Congregationnlists, held .in London, and in 1894 resigned the Collego Park Church to come to Wellington, where he has continued in active work ever since.
