At a meeting of tho Wairarapa Automobile Associatioa held in Carterton op Friday Messrs. H. Elgar (president), W. Howard Booth, and W. Benton (vicepresidents) wore appointed to represent tho association at the annual conference of tho New Zealand Automobile Union. Tho Featherston County Council intends holding a special meeting to fully consider the recommendation of a committee that, ii loan of JJ-to.OOO be raised for permanent road improvements! the. amount, indicated including .CBOOO for the purchase of n plant necessary for Inr grouting work. Tho chairman of the council (Councillor A. D. M'Lrtxl) has been appointed to attend the Counties' ( nufcrenie to be held shortly. The chairman, treasurer (Councillor J. Martini, iukl Councillor Q. Donald will represent the council at a proposed conference of Wiiirarapa county bodies in connection with a recommendation from the Wellington City Council? that consideration be yiven to the matter of arterial highways in the province. . 1 Both in Martinborough and Feathcrstnu the petition in favour of the Waintii-Q-mntn railway deviation proposal is meeting with strong support on national grounds. 'Martinborough is still desirous of course of securing a direct Hue to Featherston, as more likely to be secured within a few years. Mr. H. E. Jackson, of Carterton, has been elected to till a vacancy 011 the Management Committee of tho Wairarapa Automobile Association.
