(Rec. June 15, 5.5 p.m.) ' ; Sydney, June 15. Ths New Zealand League football team met Newcastle yesterday. In the' first epell Ifwcrson scored a try. -In the second half Ifwerson added two tries and Davidson kicked a goal., Final scores: New Zealand, 11,• Newcastle, 8 — Press Assn.
SATURDAY'S MATCHES. The second round of matches was played on Saturday afternoon, Suburbs meeting Petohe A, and Athletio inciting Petono B. A junior mntch, Athletic v. Petone, was also played. The game Suburbs v. Petone A proved a fast and interesting exhibition of football. Petone were without the services of Ashton, and played 0110 short throughout. Play all through was very even, and at times some very good passing was indulged in, but the defence was very sound, the lino only being crossud on one occasion, Ilughes scoring for Suburbs from a passing rush. The goalkicking was a feature of the game, several successful attempts being made from difficult angles. For the winners Manning converted Hughes's try and kicked a, penalty coal, while Pooley potted a goal. For Petone Whitley scored all the points, kicking three goals from penalties. Tho contest between the winners and Athletic next Saturday at Newtown Park should prove a closo and' interesting game, and should givo some indication as to the ultimate winners of the championship. Mr. S. B.'ice was referee. Athletic had an easy win from l'etunc, running up the cricket score of 50 points to 3.. Mr. C. Murphy was referee. Petone juniors defeated Athletic by 9 points to nil.
