Mr. J. W. Woodbury, who has been stationmaster at Masterton for several years, has received notice of his promotion to tho position of audit inspector. Mr. T. J. Quinn, stationmaster at Palliatua, lias been appointed temporary stationmaster at Masterton. Mr/ W. Candy has been appointed chairman of tlie Masterton Firo Board, in place of Mr. 0. Pragnell, who has resigned in consequence of ill-health. Mr. William B. of liongomai, writes to tho "Wairarapa Age stating that lie intends becoming a candidate for Masterton at the next election. Mr.'Maltlioson is a prominent member of the Farmers' Union, and supported Mr. Sykes at the Inst election. A man named Duncan M'Kay pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to issuing a valueless cheque for JJS. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. , ' , A number of burglaries have been reported in Masterton of late, A sum of Jill and articles in jewellery were removed from one residence. There was a distinct hardening in tne> price of stock at the Masterton Gtock salo on Wednesday. '
