PETONE WAR MEMORIAL COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Petone AVer Memorial Committee was* held lafet evening. The Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) occupied the chair,- and there was a gtfod attendance of members. Several designs for the proposed monument and tho alternative memorial hall were laid on tho table. Several offers of sections in Jackson Street suitable for tho erection of tho proposed memorial hall wero also received. It was finally decided, on the motion of Mr. iM-'Ewan, that further consideration of the matter be deferred in the meantime, and that the secretary be asked to draw up a circular letter appealing for funds for tho memorial—Hie nature of the memorial to be determined after a sufficient sum of money had been collected. • \ The choice from a largo number of various designs for the monument fell on a granite column 35ft. high, estimated to cost, 'with base and figure, about ,£llOO.
