A young man named John Maxfieldwas lodged in the police cells last night, exhibiting evidence of what was takeu to be delirium tremens. Subsequently he was found to bo dead. CHILD DIES UNDEIt 1 ANAESTHETIC. . Christchurch, June 12. A child named Lilian Christian, aged four years and eight months, died at tho Hospital while being 1 operated on under an anaesthetic. FOOTBALLER SERIOUSLY INJURED. By Teleeraph-Presß Association. Timaru, June 12. A serious accident befell a. Temuka player, H. Fisher, in a football match there to-day. Early in the first spell Fislier was accidentally kicked in tho stomach. He continued to play through Lha match, but soon after the game he collapsed. An oneration disclosed a perforated bowel, and other injuries, and the man's condition is very serious. Another Temuka player had his shoulder dislocated.
