Tho wedding took place in St. Andrew's Church, Christchurch, on Wednesday morning of Sergeant-Major "William John Anderson, son of Mr. W. Anderson, Temuka, to Miss Agnes Christie Borman, daughter of Mr. W. E. Borman, Ensor'a Road. Tho Hev. N. C). White, lately a chaplain with tho N.Z.E.F., officiated. Sergeant Patching, M.M., attended Urn best man, and the bridesmaid was Hiss Wilhelmina Bvi-man, a little flowor girl, Nanoy Brooks, also being in attendance.
At the meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College it was reported that Miss Scott, who had held the position of matron al tho collego for the past sixteen years, had tendered her resignation' for family' reasons. Tho resignation was accepted with great regret, and eulogistic references wero made by the chairman of the board, Mr. H. A. Knight, other members, and the director, Mr. E. E. Alexander, to Miss Scott's very valuable services,
Miss L. Hyams, supervisor of the Timaru telephone bureau, has received word of her transfer on promotion to Wellington as assistant supervisor. Miss Hyams has been in charge at Timaru for the past seveu years, and was extremely popular.
Mrs. Bauchop and her little daughter are visiting Wellington.
Mr. and Mns. H.- Elder have returned to Waikanae from a visit to tho south.
Mrs. Norman Boetham (Masterton) is visiting Mrs. Bethel], South' Canterbury.
Mrs. T. Mi Wilford and Captain and Mrs. Wilford left for the south early in the week.
In St. Joseph's Church, Lyttelton, on Tuesday, the marriage took place of Miss Evelyn Aylett Heeney, second daughter of Mr, and Mrs. J. Heeney, ot Lvttolton, to Mr. Thomas Roardon, eldest eon ,of Mr. and Mrs. B. Reardon, ot Racecourse Hill., . Miss Gertrude Emily Heeney was bridesmaid, and the - best man Mr. James Reardon. The bridegroom was a returned soldier.
'At the meeting of tho executive of tho Red Cross Fund in Christchurch a letter was received from the Minister ot Defenco stating that he had cabled to the High Commissioner asking whether any further funds were required for the relief of prisoners of war;/and had received a reply from Sir Thomas Mackenzie in which he stated that tho funds on hand- were sufficient for the purpose.
Tho King's Investiture at Buckingham Palace early in' April was notable for one feature- of' a character quite unprecedented—the bestowal upon a bereaved mother for tho second occasion of tho Victoria Cross, won by a son'who. had met his death in action. This motlior of heroes was Mrs. Bradford, and tho Cross which the Kiug handed to her was awarded to her son, Lieutenant-Commander George Bradford, for his; gallant conduct oil, tho Iris at Zeebrugge. - At a previous investiture Mrs. Bradford had received from His Majesty tho V.C. won by her other son, Brigadier-General Bradford, tho youngest- officer ■ in tho British Army to attain that rank, which he gained-at the ago of 21. Myers, Iladfield, Bayfield, Gray,' Porter, Darling, and Aheurne (lion, secretary). *It whs .stated at, the meeting that -the much-sought-for rest room for mothers had at last bden secured,- these rooms being situated in a building in Cour.tenay Placo owned by Mr. 0. .Griffiths, and partly, .'occupied, by' Mr.. R. A, Nicol, .seed merchant. Tho rental for tho rooms "was not beiuj; paid by ..the division, but by nn outside source, to whom mouthers were, .extremely grateful. Tho rooms are cheerful and sunny, and when papered and furnished, with the addition of tho insertion of a skylight; it is anticipated that they should be very comfortable and attractive and suitable for the purpose. Mr. Griffiths had promised to take away any partitions if it were wished, and was ready to assist in -other directions if possible. In all there probably will be three room&r-n nursery, a workroom, in which a wardrobe will be iittetl and etooked with clothing for all sizes of children, and a kitchenette, and it is hoped to have them open and ready for use in about' a month or six weeks' time, with a capalilo matron in charge. To mothers who cannot get into town without bringing their small children the rest room should be a gvoat boon, as tlioy will be .able to leavo tho children there whilo t'hoy transact their shopping or their business, whatever it may be, and at the same time know that their little ones will be in good hands. Tho workroom also will give many opportunities for mending clothes, stockings, etc. . -
