SEA TRANSPORT FOR FOOD SUPPLIES

, LESSONS OP THE WAB. (Rec. June 11, 8 p.m.) London, June 3. Sir Joseph Broodbank (chairman of the Dock and Warehouse Committee of the Port of London Authority), presiding- at the Cold Storage Association's dinner, said that there were now in commission 250 British ships with refrigerating accommodation amounting to fifty million cubic feet. The number of ships and their capacity was. greater than over, despite the submarine ravages. Mr. G. H. Koberis, the Food Controller, mentioned that since January, 1918, there had never been less than, eighty-two million tons of produce stored in the United Kingdom, half of which was meat. The war had revealed the fact that our greatest weakness had been our dependence on outside sources. We should ascertain whether by arrangement with the Dominions we could overcome this menace.—Eeuter.
