MAORI RETURNED SOLDIERS' UNION
PRODUCTIVENESS OF NATIVE LANDS. Bγ TeleeraDli—l'ress Association. Wanganui, June 11.' At a large and representative gathering of Natives held to-night it was decided to form a Maori Returned Soldiers' Union, with the'object of advancing the interests of the Native race. The Mayor of Wanganui presided nt the meeting, and among the speakers was the Hon. To Heuheu Tukiiio, M.L.O.' During the meeting the fusion of both races was urged. Native speakers contended that Maori lands must be made productive on scientific lines, in order that they would be in a position to pay rates and taxes. The Natives, they claimed, should have a useful pursuit in life, and to that end it was most desirable there should be a better system of educating both sexes of the Maori race.
