The Union Company announces .that an order has been placed -with a Clyde firm for the construction of a vessel to take the place of the Avenger (the Aotca-Koa), which was lost in the Borth Sea aB tho result'of enemy action. Owing to the uncertainty of conditions Jn the shipbuilding; trade in Great Britain, it is not possible to say when tho ship will ho completed. Tho new vessel will ho similar to the Avenger (about fourteen thousand tons gross), and will bo utilised in conjunction with tho Niagara on tho Vancouver run. The company's new cargo steamer, recently purchased for coastal, and intercolonial trattoria nearlng completion, and will bo seen in New Zealand waters towards tho end.of tho year.' THE KAITUNA, ' The Union Company's collier Kaituna, which arrived at Auckland from Newcastle .on Friday, was released from quarantine on Saturday and berthed to dischargo her cargo of coal. She made a prolonged passage of nino days from Nowcaatle, and experienced stormy weather most of the way. From the time she left Newcastle until she was nearing the New Zealand coast, seven days after, it blew a strong gale from tho eastward. Tho gale was accompanied by a very heavy sea, which delayed her progress and constantly broke over the forecastle-head, keeping her decks awash.
