MAGISTRATE'S COURT
WATEKSIDER IN THOUBLE. The proceedings at the Magistrate's Court yesterday were presided over by Mr. F. V. Fmer, S.M.A waterside worker' named William Raven Heenan, for whom Mr. J. A. Scott appeared, entered a plea of guilty to re* ceiving a kimono on May 15, knowing the eame to have been dishonestly obtained. The lcimono was valued at «C 4. Mr. Scott said the mail worked on the wharf pretty regularly, and when busy he kept out of mischief. Defendant reoeived the kimono from another man •when under the iniluenco of liquor. Eia Worship deoided to give defendant a chance, and fined him .£lO, in default two months' imprisonment. A prohibition order was also issued against liim. Charges of fighting on tho Queeu's Wharf on Saturday afternoon were pre. ferred against George Pearce and Henry Donham. There was no appearance ot Denham. Evidence was given that he struck Pearce, who tried to get away. In the circumstances, His Worship dismissed the charge against Pearce, and stated that lie that the man. had l«en locked up since Saturday, scoing that ho was not the aggressor. Donham was fined >62 10s., with 10s. costs, Waltor Johnson and Joseph Jensen were charged with having caused a breach of the peace in Willis Street on Saturday., There was no appearance of_ Jensen. Jolinson said that ho tried to intervene in a disturbance betwoen and another man with the objoct of preserv. ing peace, whereupon Jensen attacked him. Jensen was convicted and fined tho amount of liis bail, <£2,' and the information against Johnson was dismissed. A youth, named John Edward Belsham, twenty years of age, pleaded guilty to using obseeno language in Rugby Street, and also, to being diunk. ; It appeared that the defendant caused trouble on a tramcar on Saturday, and when put ofi mndo use of tho bad language. Hi§ Worship cautioned Belsham against tho risk ho ran in taking liquor before ho was twenty-one years of age, and pointed out to him that in buying intoxicants he was likely to get other people into trouble. In view of his youth, His Worship decided to give defendant a chance. Convicted and discharged for drunkenness, Bolsham was fined XI for using the obscene lauguago. Sydney John Nelson appeared on remand oil a chargo of lioing a rogue and a vagabond, and was remanded for n further week for medical observation. Frederick Kenneth M'Konzie was remanded to appear at Christcluirch tomorrow on a charge of stealing from the dwelling of Elizabeth Dempsey, at Cliristohuroh, on June 4, a quantity of jewellery valued at .£2l 15s. For failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order, Patrick Campboll was sentenced to two months' imprisonment the warTant to be,suspended so long as JES is paid within ono week oil' the amount of tho arrears, ,£IG. His Worship also ordored that the balanco of tho arrears should bo paid off at the rate of 10s. per week, in addition to tho sum of 10s. payable on'the order.
