POM DENISON AND PORT BOWEN. The now liner Port Denlson, which 13 now loading tit Australian ports for the United Kingdom, is a fine type of vessel, of 12,400 tons gross, and wan built last year by Messrs. Workman, Clark, and Co. Tho Port Dcnison, before visiting Australia, made only two other trips, Irom London to America. Half of her capacity is insulated for refrigerating purposes. Captain Hutchinson is in command. A sister liner, tho Port llowon, was launched recently by Messrs. Workman, Clark, and Co. The Port liowen is <!95ft. lone by 62ft. by 44ft. 3in. to tho shelter deck, is classed ICO A 1 at Lloyd's, and has a deadweight carrying capacity of 12,600 tons. Tho machinery consists of two sets of geared turbines on tho ISrown-Ourliss principle, with an i.h.p. of 5600. KOWHAI RUNS ASHORE. ON BEACH NEAR FAREWELL SPIT. News camo to the local office of the Union Steam Ship Company yesterday morning of an accident to one of. the units of its lleot in tile Kowhai, bound from Onehunga to Westport. It appears that the vessel went ashore on the bench near Farewell Spit at 4 o'clock yesterday in a fog. The latest message from the scene of the accident stated that there, was a fairly heavy swell, but in spite oi this the vessel was not making much water. Tho Kowhai is well known in this jort, having traded between Wellington and tho West Coast for Bomo considerable time. |ihe is a vessel of 792 tons, and was built in 1910 by Messrs. W. Harkness and Sons, Ltd., of Middleßborough. Her dimensions are:—Length, 195 ft.; breadth, 30ft.; and depth, 11.4 ft. When the Kowhai left Wellington last Tuesday for Onehunga, Bhe was in charge of Captain Dinsmore. The tug Tera-wliiti was dispatched to the scene of the accident at 9.55 o'clock last night with salvage gear aboard, arid tho operations will be under the charge of Captain Walton. It was expected last night that the Torawhiti would take between twelve and fourteen liourß on tho journey. SHAW-SAVILL BOATS. Bad weather on both coasts delayed the loading operations of two fihaw-Savill boats yesterday. The Raranga, wnioh is at Gisborne, will noi now leave that port for Wellington till next Friday. The Kia Ora,. at Wankanui roadstead, had to put to sea, and consequent on this delay is not due now till Friday. TOFUA AND PALOONA. A statement made by the Union Company yesterday confirmed the Press Association telegram from Dunedin (publisned yesterday) regarding the movements of the l'ofua and Paloona. The l'ofua is to relieve the Paloona in the Eastern Pacific and San Francisco service, and will leave Wellington on her first trip early in July. As to the future movements of the P,aloona nothing definite is at present known. PKINZESSIN REPORTED. The Prlnzessiu, with 600 troops on board, left Colon, on June 14 In continuation of tier voyago from the United Kingdom. She is due to make port here on June 25. HIPPLB LATE. Owing to tho prevailing bad weather ontho East Coast, tho tlipple will not rnach port till Wednesday from Gisborne. The Federal and Shire steamer Devon is to .leave Lyttelton on Friday lor Wellington. Messrs. J. J. Craig's vessel, the Ihumata, which arrived at Newcastle last week from Whangarei, is to load coal at the former .port for Auckland.
