A branch of the Now Zealand Labour Party has been formed in Carterton. The citizens of Carterton have decided to tender n complimentary social to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hughon, in appreciation of their services to the town during the time .Mr. Huglian was Mayor. A presentation will also be made at the. gathering. An effort is being made to revive.interest in the Carterton Chamber of Commerce. The trustees of the Ahiakouka Soldiers' Farm Settlement, near Greytown. have received thirty-nine applications for sections. This number has been reduced to 22. and the applicants arc to appear before the trustees on Wednesday next. Mr. F. Stead, who is taking up his residence at Lower Hutt, was, prior to his departure, presented with a safety razor by the members of the Carterton Municipal Silver Band. Messrs'. J. H. August; and Sons' property in the Waiohino Valley, which has been subdivided into convenient farms, was submitted to auction at Carterton during the week. Bidding at auction did not quite reach the reserve, but it is expected that the lots will be disposed of prvatelv almost immediately. The Carterton Red Cross Society lies decided to remit the balance at its credit to the Wellington Centre of the Red Cross Society. The .balance at the LadyLiverpool Fund's credit is to be. sent to the National War Funds Council.
