HOROWHENUA MEETING CUP WON BY ZOLA. ■ (Special Correspondent.) Levin, June G. Perfect weather prevailed for the Horowhenua meeting, which wa6 got off before ft good crowd. The attendance included a big sprinkling of Wellington sportsmen. Though the card commenced" well to time, the clock was put back on several occasions during the day, and the last race was run twenty minutes later than the advertised time. The totalisator handled .£15,696. Foeman, Gold So.ult, Manu, and Signorella was tho order of favouritism in the Hack Hurdles, for which Papanui, Kurapai, Movement, Fiery Moutoa, Wee Donald; and Diamond !Nap were withdrawn. Gold Soult and Metallum played up at the barrier, and delayed the start, and the latter'was'left when"tho barrier lifted. Manu led over the first fence,- where Signorella fell. Going into the strait .Gold Soult arid Dasher Boytook charge, arid the Porirua horse was well : clear of ■ Manu 'at • the' lffet fence, where he fell. - Manu then won easily .from. Dasher Boy, with Metallum close up. -Foeman was fourth. Had Metallum got away with the field it looked as if She would have won. Gold Soult took oft too far at the last fence, and landed on top of it. ' Some Girl, Moutoa Boy, and Multiplex wero scratched for the Moutere Welter Handicap, and the. public went for Maraetotnra, Utuwai, and Transmission in that order. Toddy led the favourite into the straight, whcro he ran wide, and Utuwai slipped up on the rails. The last-named won comfortably from Consultation, with the top-weight [-nd- Maymorn close up. The winner was badly placed in the middle portion of tho journey, but a lucky opening on the Tails materially assisted him .to score. American Beauty saw a' very short price in the Scurry./ Multiplex jumped out in front, but he was immediately supplanted by the favourite', and alio-led all the way. Thero was a good finish for second place botwen Hautawa and Multiplex, and the former got the decision by a' neck. Moutoa Bay and Monument were next. ■ . Pacific Slope and- -Pretty! Bobby were the best'hacked in the Horowhenua Cup, for which all the ' acceptors started. George and Lady General set a fast pace over the first six furlongs, ' where Zola and Pacific 1 Slope were the most prominent of the. others. Pacific .Slope got a couple of checks, over the last halfmile, and Zola led Detroit into the straight, with Pretty Bobby next. In flie run home Zola held liis own, and won by half a length from Detroit, with Master Moutoa .who was finishing fast, a length away. ■ Lady General, Pretty Bobby, and Pacific Slope wero the next to finish. The latter seemed to be unlucky,, as he got a very bad passage. Pretty Bobby and Lady General failed to stay the distance. Master Moutoa was nearly down at the barrier rise, and ho also got a check in the run homo down the back straight. ■ Beloved, Prince Formby, and Dainty .{Jtep were all evenly baked for the. Levin Hack Handicap. Prom, a good: start Tonukohe took charge, and led down the back,, where' Prince Formy joined him. The.pair were.still in charge wherithe straight was .entered, but then Dainty Step ran to the front, arid won easily.Prince Formby beat Tonukohe by a neck. Lady Witch was fourth. There were only, four runners m the M'Donald Memorial Handicap, five furlongs, Eoyal Chef, Wonder; and Gold Problem being evenly backed. Tho lastnamed was the quickest to begin, and he led for a "furlong, whero Eoyal Chef joined in. The pair fought out a good finish, {but victory rested with Gold Problem, who won by a neck. Wondor was two lengths away, , and Birkenette was tailed off. , „ , , At one stage of the totting in the final event Lady Black -looked like, being an odds-on proposition, -but big monev came for Ahika, and the local horse finished up favourite. Lady Black arid Merne Poto were leading the fayourite when the straight was reached, while Goldstream and Haumakaka were prominent of the others. The favourito took charge at, the distance! - and won. . comfortable ..from Want; who finished ...very fast.... Haumakaka was third. .This mado the fourth 6uocess - gained by Trainer P.
