VENDETTA IN MELBOURNE
FURTHER- OUTRAGES.Melbourne, June G. , The amazing -vendetta in tho underworld of the city has reopened. It appears that .after: a man named Stokes had been arrested .in connection with a' shooting case in Little Collins Street both sides agreed to an" armistice, tho terms of whicli were drawn up in black and white, signed, and witnessed, and provided that, shooting should cease until the-chargo-against Stokes had been disposed of;"'. Siiice then several members of one gang have been sentenced for vagrancy, and it appears that this terminated the agreement. The latest outrage is that on Robert ."Whiting (an exp'ugilist), who previously had' beeii wounded three times. Ho • was attacked at his home in Fitzrov, six shots being fired.without effect. His assailants drove airay'in a motor-car, and then fired n dozen dliots through, the windows -of. Thorpe's house. As usual both ilio men declined to lay a charge.—Press Assn.
