GREATER WELLINGTON

TOWN-PLANNING ASSOCIATION. A meeting of tho Greater Wellington Town-planning and Municipal Electors' Association was held on Monday evening, when the recommendation of tho annual meeting: "That various committes be ap. pointed to assist the executive" was considered. The question was enthusiasti rally received bv tho meeting, and it was taken as an indication of a keener interest beiug evinced in the work of tho association. After discussion it was ro solved that tho committees should not bo confined to the executive, but should comprise two members 'of tho executive and several gentlemen wiio would be prepared to give some time and attention to the matters entrusted to them, and that regular reports be supplied by the executive members on each committee. The committees set up were:— (1) Garden Suburbs: (a) Flotation of a company; (b) locality and lay-out of proposed new suburbs. (2) Transit facilities. (3) City improvement (including housing). (4) Reserves and forests. (5) Legislation. (G) Finance. The names of somo fifty gentlemen were mentioned, and allocated amongst the executive to interview and obtain their consjjut to nomination. As time goes on it is intended to strengthen these committees by the addition of s other members whose experience will be helpful. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt, who presided over the meeting, eaid the proposal meant a considerable extension of the scope of tho association's work, and ho hoped within the next year to see a garden suburb well on the way towards realisation. If permission can be obtained the executive intends visiting the Defence Reserve at Point Halswell, where, it has been suggested, thero is an ideal situation for a garden suburb.
