The Mayor (Mr. J. W. Card) and cliairmah of the School Committee 'Mr. 11'. H. Kendall), together' with another repre; 6entative citizen, attended at the Public School, Featherston. on Wednesday for the purpose of presenting one of the scholars, Winnie Crrthenvood, a daughter of the Rev. I{. H. ffid Mrs. Cutherwood, with tho jjold medal awarded for the best Dominion essay on "How New Zealand Manufacturers Can Best Help Returned Soldiers," the competition having been held under the auspices of the National Service League. The Mayor formally presented tho medal, following on an appropriate, address to the scholars. Oheers for fho gold medallist were vociferously accorded, and at the invitation oF the chairman tlio children expressed appreciation of tho Mayor's attendance.
