NEW TECHNICAL COLLEGE

BOARD AND ARCHITECTS CONFER. A conference between representatives of (he Architects' Association and the executive of tho Wellington 'I'cclihical Education'Board'took place yesterday morning in connection with the plans of the proposed now Technical College, to bo Greeted On the Moimt Cook site (or tho south-western side of the Alexandra Barracks). . The subject foe discussion _ was the projected architectural com petition in connection with tho plans, which action. was agreed upon •by a 6mall majority of the board at' its last meeting. At ,tiio same time, the board agreed that every plan was to be based upon the lay-out plans prepared by Mr. La Trobe (Government Director of Technical Schools). The two decisions created a singular position, as ' the lay-out suggested by Mr. La Trobo (who did not supply working plans) left littlo for architects to competo for, as tho lay-out governs tho design in a very large measure. No statement was mado for the Press as to the result,of the conference, which will be submitted to tho full board on Wednesday, morning next. It is understood, however, that it is not at all unlikely that the motion deciding on a' competition will bo rescinded.

The local Y.M.C.A., Willis Sired, has secured Sergeant Jack Jl'Kenzie as speaker at the men's meeting on Sunday afternoon at I o'clock. Mr. M'Kenzic was formerly ttrhvelling isecretary for the i'j'Qibyteriaii Biblo Class Union, and went out to the front as tho liiblc Class representative. Later he joined up with tho forces, entering tho Machine-gun Section. Ho recently returned by tli.o Rimutaka. Members of tho various Biblo classes in Wellington are invited to the meeting on. Sunday. The 6trangers' tea will be held at 5 o'clock.
