About fifty friends gathered together at Pahiatua last Thursday, and paid a "surprise" visit to "Hill Crest," the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Arrow. Dancing- and music provided : very pleasant entertainment, and (lie newest dances were exceedingly popular. Among those present were Mesdames Graham, Crewe, Larson, White, Scott, Kobbel, Norman (Hopolands), Hull, Uroves (Masterton), the Misses Tullock, Wilson (Napier), Grant (Woodvllle), Norman, Tonkin, Halliday, Little, Hewitt, Dawson, the Messrs. Kobbel, Crewe, White-Scott, Briggan, , Wilson. Jeune (Gisborne)', 'Thomas (Auckland), Cook, and many others.:

Sister Brooks returned to New, Zealand by tho Tofua last week, after some years of active service abroad, tho last one of which was sj)ent as Matron of tho New Zealand Stationary Hospital in France. Miss Vallance (Masterton) is visiting Wellington, and is staying with Miss Drummond, Kilbirnie. Mrs. Dillon (Marlborough) is visiting Wellington. f Mrs. Moorhouso presided over a wellattended meeting of the Wellington Nursing Division, St. John Ambulance Brigade, which was held in St. John's Schoolroom on Monday evening. Sister Maoandrew gave a very interesting and instructive leoturo on tho treatment of burns and wounds. Speaking of burns, attention was drawn to the fact that the danger lies more in the extent rather than the dopth of the injury. A wound caused by anything which has been near garden manure or vegetable decomposition should at once be attended to by. a doctor, however small it may be, otherwise tetanus may result. A hearty voto of thanks wa? given Sister Maenndrew at the close of her address.

Tho monthly committee meeting of the District Nursing Guild of St. John was held on Monday, afternoon at the residence of Mrs. W. E. S. Moorhouso. There Wero present; Mesdamc9 Moorhouso (presiding), A. A. Corrigan, J-. R. Gibbons, and B. Pearson, Misses Macandrewyßobieson, and Rowley (hon. Secretary). Apologies for absence woto received from Mrs. Balcombo Brown and Mrs. S. D. Tripo. . Tho report of the nurses showed that three patients were registered during tho month, 5 were discharged, 20 remain on the register, and 1201 visits wero paid. Gifts of clothing, linen, an air-cushion, soup, barley-water, I milk puddings, and eggs were gratefully "received from the following:—Mesdames Mflorhouse, Studholme, Corrigan, Thompson. Myers, O'Connor, ahd Dennistoii, Misses Eobieson, Macandrow, and Wilson, Two Garment Society, Red Cross Society, and two anonymous donors. Donations (for purchasing coal for the sick poor woro acknowledged with thanks from Captain Ewing (is)'and Mrs. W. Nathan (£3). Wedding in St. Paul's. Tho marriage, took place in St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral yestorday afternoon of Mf&» Vera, Florence Duthie, daughter of Mr. D. W. Dutliio, general irtauagcr o"f the National Bank ot Now Zealand, and Mrs. Duthie, to Major Norman Abbott, M.C., N.Z.M.C, of Trenthnm Camp, and formerly of Bondigo, Victoria.' Tho clmtcli had been prettily decorated for the occasion, and during, the ceremony tho bride and bridegroom stood beneath a largo floral wedding bell, Tho Ven. Archdeacon Johnson, M.A., officiated, and Mr. Robert Parker played tho organ. Tho bride, who was g_iven away by her father, woro a gown ot ivory stain nppliqucd .with gold brocade and draped with fringed .goorgette. The long train of georgette was also bordorcd with tho same appliqiied design, and was fastened to tho shoulders with gold tissue' and a knot of orange blossoms, while her long tullo veil was arranged with a wreath of gold loaves. Tho bridesmaids were tho Misses Joyco Duthie, Snodgrass (Auckland),, and Madge Tweed, whoso frocks woro of soft daffodil charmbuse, the skirts being looped up at Die sides with sea-green ribbon and buttercups, and wido brimmed hats of brown tullo wreathed with gold leaves. The bouquets woro very beautiful, and were of autumn foliago and bronze and yellow flowers, with, in the case of the bridesmaids, intermingling clusters of violets. Tho latter also, carried their gifts from tho bridegroom, consisting of very charming embroidered bags, while tho bride Woro her gift of a pearl and diamond ring. The best man was Mr. Hoy Towle, ot Auckland, and the groomsmen Messrs. Kenneth Clayton and E. Tonks', of Auckland. All four, bridegroom, best man, and groomsmen, are returned soldiers. ' Mrs. Duthie. the bride's mothor. word a frock of black panne and georgette with a widebrimmed black hat trimmed with a cluster of fuchsia-ooloured satin fruit, and carried a shower bouquet of. autumn leaves and flowers. Following tho ceremony a reception was hold at the residence'of Mr. and Mrs. Duthio in Hobson Street, where the decorations wero of gold, and whito, in keeping with the general colour sohemo of - the wedding, with the exception of the drawing-room,. Which. was' arranged chiefly with' pink' flowers. Among those who wero present were: Mr. and Mis. Clayton (Auckland), Major Duthie, D.5.0., Mr. and Mrs. Hileyi Ml', and Mrs. .J. In the even-, mg a dance was given,by Mr. and Mrs. VDuthie. \ A Rarotongan Wedding, The London Missionary Society Church at Earotonga was gaily decorated on May 7, the occasion icing tho ioarriago of Miss Mary. M. Olausen, youngest daughter of Mr. 0. Olausen, of Wellington, to Mr. C. A. Brent, late purser of the Union Steam Ship Company. Tho bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr, S. M. Mills. Wore'white crepe-de-chine and a veil and orange blossoms.. She wns attended by Miss Belle Cormack as bridesmaid, anil both carried pretty shower bouquets. The duties of groomsman were ably carried out by Mr. R. Duckworth, late purser of the H.S.S. Company. The officiating minister was the Kor, H. Bond-James, while the musical pfogramme was carried out by Miss Newman, of Wellington. After the ceremony, a reception was given at Takitumu Schoolhouse, a large number of guests being presont. The house was decorated in tropical fashion, and the usual toasts woro proposed and honoured. After the breakfast, tho place was cleared for dancing, and a most enjoyable evoning was 6pont. Thero were numerous presents, including eovernl cheques; a cabinet drop-head sewing machine, and a cabinet oil stove, wero tho gifts of the stall of tho Cook Islands Trading Company, where Mr. Brent is ccountant. Owing to tho unavoidable absence of Mre. Mills, sister'of the bride, Mrs. H. D. Bannerman acted as hostess.

Education for Fallen Soldiers' Children. A meeting to organise matters in connection with the street sale of tickets which is to be held on Friday in aid of the Treiithain Scholarships Art Union was held in the Accountants' Chambers, Johnston Street, . yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Waters presided. It was explained at the meeting that the help of women in furthering this effort, which is i to b& made to further educational-facilities-for fallen toldicrs' children, would be gladly welcomed, and their help would bo given in a very worthy causa indeed. It was proposed to make an .organised appeal la the publio on the lines of street sales, only instead of goods tickets for this art union would be vended at tho stalls which would be placed at various points throughout'tho city. As a result of the meeting stalls woro allotted as follow: Bank of New Zealand corner, Stewart Dawson's corner, and the Post. Office, tho Commercial Travellers' Club;,Kirkoaldie and Stains, Mrs. Preston and the Wellington South Nursing Division; 'Windor's corner and Te Aro Hou6o, tho Women's National Reserve; Kelburn Avonuo, Mrs. Waters; Bowcn Street. Mr. Apploton; Courtenay Place, Mr. Wallace; Mercer Street, Mr. Jacobs; Boulcott Street, Mrs! O'Sullivan and party: Woodward Street, Mr. Sydney Kirkcaldic; Veitch and Allan's corner, Mesdames Eastergarb and'B&ynes. The ono hundredth and forty-sixth meeting of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Council was held this week; Mrs. Gill presided. .Officers for the year were-appointed as. follow;— President, Mrs. Gill! vice-presidents, Mrs. H. §mith aud Miss England; secretary, Mrs. S. Eichelbaum. The sum made by Mrs. Hannah and Miss Campbell's' entertainment and the sweetrstall will be between £500 and .-COM. A statement will bo published when all expenses are paid.
