With tho arrival of tho six-masted barquentino E. 11 Sterling and the fourmasted barque Almcudralat Sydney somo days aco, no more big sailine vessels are oxpected at Sydney for some considerable time, and i wising, by tho present state of affairs, and-the great number of now steamers now coming' to Australia, it is very probable that never again will there be so many large sailiujj vessels coming to Sydney ae were liero.last year. Durinc last year- no fewer than fifteen large foilr-masted barques arrived at Sydney, including somo of, tho finest sailers afloat (says the Sydney "Shipping List"). < MARAROA DELAYED. Owing to her stokehold complement being short of two firemen,- the ferry steamer Mararoa was delayed for over an hour last evening, but 6lte eventually uot, away for Lyttelton at 8.50 p.m. Tho Australian Government's eteaiuor Australplain left Accra on' April 22 for New York with a carso of cocoa. I'l'oni the latter port she is to load case oil for Wellington Auckland, and Sydney. VANCOUVER SERVICE. Aβ reported by the Press Association yesterday the Niagara is to omit her trip to Sydney, remaining in the northern port till Jnne 10, when she will procteu io Vancouver, via way ports. The Makui-a was due at Vancouver yesterday from Auckland. She is scheduled to sail on tho return Journey on Saturday. ' . WHAKATANE TO LOAD. Tho New. Zealand Shipping Company's liner Whakatane, which is at present at Pon Chalmers, is expected, to completo her overhaul about the end of next weelt. As tho Rernuera is to loud the Westmoreland's cargo, thu Whakatane's loading programme has been rearranged. The latter vessel will now load frozen meat and general cargo at' Port Cbalmers for London, and will afterwards visit Tiniaru to take if. additional freieht, in place -of tho Remuera. It is expected that thn Whakatano will proceed fvom Timaru to Wellington, ana. sail from this port fln.ally towards the end of June for London, via Panama. J "' .KIGOMA SAILS. A Proas Association message for London, published yesterday, stated that tho Kigoma had sailed for New Zealand, via tho Panama Canal. The Kigoma' is one of three German vessels being managed by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. for the Imperial Government, and was formerly owned by tho Deuischo Ost-Afrika Line. She is a steel twin-Ecrow steamer of 8100 tons gross, built in 1914 at- Hamburg, and beioro the war was engaged in the German Eaet Africa trade. The other two vossels being managed m conjunction with this boat are the Erinz B3sen and Waherins, both of which aro bringinj troops''out, the former to New Zealand and the latter to Australia. MOANA ANDPALOONA. It is expected that the Paloona, notf at San Franoiflco, will Ret away from that Sort on Friday, arriving hero about une 29. • • The Moana is to get away- from this port for San Francisco on the same day. THE WAHINK Writing on April 15, the London correspondent of tho Auckland "Herald" stated that within a few days the Wahino would proceed to Dumbarton to be reconditioned by her builders (Denny'Brothers), preparatory to being returned to her owners, the Union Steam Ship Company. This operation was expected to take four montliß. , ; : A LARGE CONSIGNMENT. Tho Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Kia Ora, which left New Plymouth for Waitara. last weelt, took from tho former part one of the largest consignmonts of frozen .produce ever-lifted in that port. The cargo was as- follows: —2M5 carcasses lamb, 4195 ca'roassos mutton, 3764 quarters beef, 304 casks tallow, 10 casks pelts, 1200 casc3 preserved moats,' 444 boxes tripe, 103 boxes ox kidneys, 44 crates sheep kidneys, 64 boxes oxliides, 101 bodies frozen veal. Killing would have had to cease had the liner not visited the nort, and tho Whakatane, which is duo there in about a fortnight, will further ease the- congestion in the storage chambers, about" 14,000 car oassos and a, quantity .of -tallow being allotted • . THEHIMUTAKA.. The Kimutalta, which is at present at .Olydo Quay Wharf discharging American coal, will leave on June 12 for Whaliatane, Poverty Bay; and Gisborne, to commence Hompward loa'ding. She will TOturn later to this port to complete loading. - • . REMUERA'S ITINERARY. Tho Roraucra was to" have* comu out of dock at Port' Chalmers on Saturday. This week the vessel will commence to load the frozen meat cargo from the damaged steamer Westmoreland. The Remuera will not visit Tiinaru for further loading, as was previously arranged, but will leave Port Chalmevfl about the end of next week for this port," where sho will complete her cargo, and sail about June 14 for London, via Panama. THE ROGGAVEEN. The Royal Dutch Packet Company's steamer Roggavecn, which nas been discharging a cargo of Java sugar at Auckland, and loading timber and general cargo for Sydney recently, is a sister ship .to the Barentsz, which left Auckland for Melbourne. Her usual trade is between Australia and the Dutch East Indies, and, consequently, sho is fitted up with cabins suitablo for tropical weather. Slio.is an oil-burning veesel. The officers are Dutch, and tho rest of tho crew are Javaueee. Her registered: tonnaKO is 4657 gross, and she i 3 capable of steaming 14 knots. Beeidqss carrying .cargo, she lias accommodation for 72 passengcre, all nret-class. I D'URVILLE ROOK MARKED BY BUOY. ' Tho beacon markiug D'Urville Rock, in tho Hauraki Gulf, which waa broken by heavy seas some months ago, will n£t be re-erected owing, to the difficulty of fitting a concrete cup' on the rock to siipjort tho beacon.. The site of the rock is now marked : by a buoy. On Friday tho Government steamer Ilincmoa placed a large iron cono buoy, painted black, in eight fathoms, at. a distance of one cable's length west' (correct magnetic) of tho rock. This will bo tho permanent mark of. tho danger.. YSABEL, FROM MELBOURNE. Tho Bchooner Ysabel arived in the etream at Auckland on Saturday . from Melbourne, after a voyage of twenty-four days.. , She left tho Australian port on May 6, with a cargo of superphpsphates for Auckland, and experienced rough weather throughout, southerly and Bouth-cast gales prevailing. Sho was forced to heave to on several. occasions, once for throe days. After discharge she loads for Fiji, and there takes in a caw of copra. ..... ORIENT LINER ORMONDE.. The Orient liner Ormonde, which is scheduled to. leave. Sydney in August for London, via ports, was builfTat Clydobank by Mesßrs. John Brown and Co, who built tholOrama' and Orsora, the Aqultania" (the largest British steamship afloat), and the battle-cruiser Australia. The Ormonde is a , steel vessel of 15.W0 tons ■ gross register, and 'has a measurement of 600 ft. over all. a beam of 66ft.. and a moulded depth of 44ft. The steamer has a cruiser stern, and is fitted with geared turbine engines. Both the engines and the cruiser stern are innovations. in the Australian trade. Tho Ormonde is the largest veaeel to navigate the Suez Canal. She was launched in the middle of 1915, and has since been in tho Imperial Government's employ. As far jis tho passenger accommodation is concerned, tho vessel ie one Of the most up-to-date in tho Australian trade. NEW VESSELS. Six large moat carriers are being built on the Tyne for tho Federal Shaw-Savill, and Commonwealth and Dominion Lines. Hawthorn Leslie's liavo nearly completed the Port Nicholson for tho Dominion Lino, Sho is sOoft. long, and has a dead-weight capryinu capacity of 12.722 tone. Swan and Hunter are buildiug two for tho Federal Lino, and Palmer and Company are building a third. Two have been launched. Armstrong, Whitworth, and Palmer are building ino each for the Shaw-Savill Line. Tho last five Bteamers are 450 feet long, and will bo able to carry 3200 tons of meat apiece. To-day tho Rosamond is to leave Napier for this port. From hero she will tako cargo for Bluff, sailing on Friday. Tho barqucntino Kohala will be dispatched in ballast to-day for Eureka, California, from which port sho will load back to Sydney. ~ ' At an early! hour yesterday Hie Kennedy arrived in port with a load of stock from Waitapu. She is to sail for Westuurt direct to-day. •" Tho Blenheim, due hero to-day from Havelock, with stock, is set down to Gail from' Wanganui this evening. It is expected that the New/ Zealand Shipping CO. will dispatch the Middlchain Castlo for London, via th'o Panama, on Friday or Saturday. Tho coastal steamer John is to bo on the slip to-day. It is hoped to dispatch her for Dunedin and Oamaru on Friday,
The Cunard Lino has ordered a passen. eer liner for the Atlantic trade from Messrs. Swan, Hunter, and Wighani liichavdson, Ltd., of which the following particulars are published by the builders. The boat lias been numbered 1125, and is designed for first, second, and third-class accommodation. Tho particulars of conBtruction are: Length (b.p.), 600 ft.; breadth (m.), 73ft. 6in. ; depth (in.), «ft.; with, a displacement of about 12,500 lons. Tho enuinea will be Reared turbines, -with s.li.p. of about 12,500. . Shortly before she left Livornool on her preecnt trip to Australia, a lire was discovered on , the Bibby liner Warwickshire (reports the Sydney "Shipping List"). The outbreak was discovered near the stat. .board ventilator in No.'6 hold. Investigation shown)- that a. lot of combustible material had apparently been arranged with the object of ignition. After the llro had been extinguished o, can was found containing charred debris, consisting appavently of ivqod shavings.- particles of paint, and sacking. A few feet away was a. lot of bamboo, to which apparently a trail had been laid. Messrs. Bibby ottered a reward of £100 for information that would lead to the conviction of the person or persons concerned, but at the tuns tho mail left no information had been received by them. At the time of this fire the Warwickshire was undergoing re-pairs-consequent upon bcins hit by a tor nndo.
