Sir,—The recent sad case dealt with in the Supreme Court of a young man with a family holding a position for eleven years with a banking institution and then receiving sucTi a "totally inadequate salary" that he is compelled to resort to outside means to augment hie income calls for thought. Another coee: A man of good repute finds it has taken over thirty yeare of faithful and responsible service to add JSIOO yearly to his uioome.
During three-quarters of that period the lives of himself and his wife havo been of necessity a continnnl struggle in ordcito feed, clothe, and ci' 110 a family who will bo "assets lo State." Are these cnses isolated or t.vi- I. and should such things bo in this- .avowed 'Dominion where an honest Government tries to do its best for Labour ? Or is <v labourer in the banking vineyavd supposod to bo content, with the bloom he rubs from the fruit as ho gathers it for the vintage?1 am> eto - ASIA.
