Sir,—Your issue of to-day contains two letters bewailing the lack of accommodation for pupils at fcho Wellington Boys' nnd Girls' Colleges, and emphasising the need for early action in view of the fast approaching commencement of another year. On the same page with these, appears the announcement that ,#70,000 has been , set asido for the building of a teohnical school in Wellington. . I have for some jwa token a. Veen interest in the growing demand for increased facilities for higher education in your city, and I am anxious to know how it is that tho. strong popular de-' mand for college accommodation has been practically ignored while the request (which in put forward rather by official bodies than by the public) for an. adequate technical training.institution is thus hoeded. Is it that our Government regards.the equipping of business men and trades people as more important to the country than the output of liberally-educated and high-principled citizens? ■ I hope not. Some of us aru sadly awaro that. the present Minister.of Education is inclined to favour teohiiioal training at the expense of education in the liberal artsj.but have we no Parliamentary representative who, while conceding the value of well-managed, technical instruction, hns aims and aspirations foi. , our country whioh tire above the mere material f
