PTOMAINE POISONING
A CHRISTCHURCH FATALITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, June 2. An inquiry was hold yesterday into the cause ot' tho death of Mrs. M. T. Williams, a widow, who died suddenly on Friday. 11. T. Hollowav, nephew of the deceased, at whose residence deceased had been residing" for some time past, stated that he had purchased pressed beet' on Thursday for the evening meal. Witness, his mother, his wife and child, and deceased all partook of the meat, and he and his wife and deceased were taken ill, but not the others. As deceased appeared to become. worse, medical nid was obtained. Dr. Mickle gave evidence that death was due !o ptomaine poisonins. Ho reported'the case to the District Health Officer. Dr. Widdowson, who made a post-mortem examination, said in his opinion death was due to ptomaine poisoning. The innuest was adjourned till June G. to enable the remaining portion (if the pressed beef to be analysed by tho Government Analyst.
