"SKINNY-MA-LINKY!"
EXAMPLE OP SCOTTISH CHEEK,
i The following example of juvenile ! Scottish cheek was related by a New ; Zealand lady who recently returned from ' a visit to Scotland. AVilh another New ' Zealand lady she was awaiting the arrival of a train at a railway station in j the Highlands. A lady of' the uroud i duchess type and stylishly dressed swept I on to the railway platform, and commenced to walk to and fro, the centre of female admiration. As she stalked • along filio was spied by a wee grimy , Scotch urchin, seated on top of the raiii way pate. Tho urchin evidently knew ; the lady's name and history, for lie commenced, and kept repeating in a shrill cheeky voice, set to music: "Hey, Mrs. Daniels, think y'ere awfu' neat. Skinny-mn-linky, lanky legs, umbrella feet." . Mrs. Daniels, let it be said, hail no means of escape, her train was not due for five minutes, and she had imagined live minutes' proud display before the r-Vfopn crowd. Tnstead she'had to suffer - Ibis miniature Lauder and his chant, and dive for the handiest carriage when the train arrived. The chant, being repeated so -nflen :\nd with such a swing, inflicted itself on the memories of the two ; New Zoalanders, so that the mere sight , j of a proudly adorned duchess recalls it,
