HOTEL ACCOMMODATION
COMPLAINTS IN CHRISTCHUECH. By Telegraph—PreßS Association 1 ■ Christchurch, June 2. ' At a meeting of the Licensing Comi mittee to-day tho chairman stated i that he had visited many hotels in Christchurch, and in some the accommodation was so bad that ho was considering _tlu> question of condemning certain- premises. Complaints had been made to the committee of travellers being refused meals because they asked for them after tlifi schedule time. The chairman pointed out that the licenseas wero also innkeepers, aud were bound to supply meals at an> time of the day or night, and must also provide accommodation for travellers as long as it was available. The penalties for non-compliance with the law wer& very heavy.' The Health Officer's report recommended certain alterations to the bars and premises of a number of hotols, some of which, the chairman stated, were beyond 'the jurisdiction of the committee. The committee adjourned for a fortnight, the chairman stating that all the licensees who are lessees must produce a statement showing any encumbrances on their leases.
