The vital statistics for Wellington for the month of May, 1919, are aa follow, the figures for the corresponding period of 1918 being shown for purpose ol comparison : — 1918. 1919. Births 223 227^ Deaths 8G 96 1 ' Marriage notices 10G 88 Of the marriages, 3G took place in the office in May, 1918, and 27 in May, 1919. For the five months ending Slay 31 this year there was a decrease (as compared with the first five months of 1918) in births, and an increase in deaths. The figures are as follow:— 1918. 1919.
