"SCATTERED BANDS"
Dr. A. T. Guttery,.in liis presidential address to the National Free Church Council at Sheffield, said: "They must liavo the closest co-operation between all the Churches, and ultimately tiie closest and most vital union. When, a great conference was summoned to secure social and industrial peace, where was the Christian Church? It was no fault of tlio Government that the}', wjio had the moral, motivo and spiritual inpulso which could secure national unity and good-, will, were not invited, They were so divided, at times discordant, that they did not enter such a conference lest they should bring confusion and not counsel and guidance. To-day, as never before, rivalry was treason and waste was sin. They daro not enter tlio mightiest adventure of all timo as scattered bands. Union was their duty—it would be their glory. Let them have a fuller faith in their people, and have confidence in their leaders, even when thev did not see their way to follow them at 'the cross roads.'"
