BROOK .STREET PROPERTY ACQUIRED. Mr. W. F. Ward (chairman), Sir Edward Gibbes, Messrs. T. Forsyth and W. H. P. Bnrte were present at yesterday's meeting of the Board of College Governors, held in Mr. C. P. Powles's office, Lambton Quay. The statement of finance ehowed a credit at the bahk of .£2271 Bs. Gd.,\ lodged, bnt not credited, .£29. 9s.- 9d,: cash in hand, ,£S 55.; payments required wore .£904 Ms. for tho Wellington College, and ,£055 15s. Id. for the Girls' College. The fees outstanding wi>re:—Wellington College, ,£2903 os. 4<L; Girls' College. ,£2329 is. Bd.; rents outstanding. •£268 15s. 9d.; amount on deposit, .68500. The report was adopted. The current accounts for the month, were passed for payment. ; The chairman announced that the board hud completed the purchase of five properties on the south side of Brook Street (off Murphy Street), which would give the college an additional area for playground space. They were still negotiating for the purchase of another property in the same street, the acquisition of which would still further consolidate the college property. Mr. Forsyth said that the' Education Board's property wae situated opposite the houses which had been purchased by the board, so that, with no private owners concerned, the board could now approach the City Council and ask it to close up the lower part of, Brook Street, and 60 create still further land for playground purposes. It should bo explained that this could be oasily done, as Brook Street was n blind street, which terminated against the Education Board's (Normal School) property.
