Luke) in St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown, yesterday afternoon. The number of birds on show was 140. and competition jn some of the classes was very keen. The finality of the birds was very high, and some of tho birds were considered lo be the best seen at a Wellington poultry show for some years. The judges of the various classes were': —Fancy Clare and White Leghorn Util-, ity, Mr. T. Doig; Wyandottos and Rocks' Utility, Mr. W. Davey; Rhode Island Reds, Mr. J. Now that the war had ended the jeople would bo enabled to bend their energies and endeavours. to activities which would be of a useful and beneficial character socially. .The fostering of poultry-raising' was deserving of great encouragement, the breeding of utility birds being of much importance to the Dominion. Many disabled soldiers would bo able to go in for poultry farming, it being work of a nature peouliarlr suited to some men who were unable to follow strenuous occupations. The strong support of all those interested in poultry shonld be given to soldiers who wished to take up poultry raising. To the "boys and girls assembled before him Mr. Luke said that they could do nothing better than take a delight in animal and bird life, and in Nature study. By doing so they would not only 1 be impressed with what was best in the. world, but it would give them a broader idea of their responsibilities as they grew to manhood and womanhood.
