DASTARDLY OUTRAGE
HOUSE DESTROYED BY HIGH EXPLOSIVE WONDERFUL ESCAPE OF y INMATES (By /Telegraph—Presß Association.) Greymouth, May 29. About two o'clock this morning the residents of Greymouth were awakened by a terrifying explosion, which proved to he tho result of one of. the most dastardly deeds recorded in the Dominion for many years. A high explosive had been placed in the house of Senior-Ser-geant Simpson,' of the police force. The hou6o resembles a building that had boon bombed. Sergeant Simpson says he was awakened by the explosion, found a swaying building, and heard the sound of falling glass. The kitchen is in a state of chaos. The walls arc shattered. Solid shelves were torn out of position, and the windows blown clean out. Mrs. Simpson and an infant wcro sleeping in a room adjoining. lhey were saved from tho force of tho explosion by a Clipboard in the kitchen near the bedroom wall. The charge had evidently been placed in an angle formed by the kitchen chimney and the wall. ~-... , , A high explosive, was used. It shattered a bench and sink, and splinteredtile chimney. The charge was-fired by a time fuse. A large charge was used. The inmates escaped injury. Mrs. Simpson is suffering from shock.
