CIVIL SERVICE APPOINTMENTS
AN AMENDING REGULATION. An amending regulation under the Pub- ] lie Service Act has been issued, authorising preference to returned soldiers. The regulation is as follows;— Appointments will be made according to tile order of merit in the list o: replicants who have passed tho cn1....ic0 examination: Provided that if any iicrson is available and otherwise eligible who has at any time passed tho Civjl Service senior examination, or the examination hereinafter called Hie senior examination, or tho matriculation examination of the New Zealand University, although in any of these cases ho may not have passed the entrance examination, he shall take precedence over candidates who have passed the entrance examination only; and provided further that the commissioner may, if he thinks fit, give preference to an applicant who is an honourably discharged member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Poree, and who has at any time paused the cntirance examination or its equivalent. Every applicant for examination shall state in his application whether he is willing to accept appointment—
(a) In any part of New Zealand in which a vacancy may occur, or only in some particular part"of New Zealand: (b) In any Department of the Publio Service in which a vacancy may occur, or only in some particular Department or Departments.
