AT TRENTHAM CAMP. Tho preliminary oeries.of tho boxing tonrnament for tho sixth course of instruction took place at Trenllmin Military Cninp on Monday evening. Tho number of entries received was 123—a record for camp tournaments—and included nine classes as follow:—Cst. 71b., six competitors; 7st. 71b., six competitors; Bst. 71b., eight competitors; flat., seventeen competitors; 9st. 71b., nineteen competitors; lOst., twenty-eight competitors; Mfet. 71b., twelve; list. 711).. thirteen competitors; 12st. 101b., thirteen competitors.

Two boxing rings were in operation, one in the Y.M.C.A., under Captain Crawford, N.Z.M.C.; .and the other in the Presbyterian Institute, under- Major Talbot. Thanks to the excellent organisation, which was in the hands of Captain A. W. Brocks, M.C., assisted by members of the physical training staff, all Die preliminary series up to the semifinals wero fought off, resulting in about 70 bouts, or, roughly, .'!5 bouts in each Tiiiff in under (hreo hours. In Iho first series tho bouts were of '15 seconds duration, and in the second series of one 'minute. Sonic excellent bouts were witnessed, represenliiilves of various schools opposing each other for the- first time in tho history of the institutions. Bides; Corporal Lambert, Mnrlboroiigh College, beat Corporal Reynolds, Christchurch. King's Colloge, Auckland, provided some particularly clever boxers.
