LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

—, — t Tho fortnightly meeting of the Lower. Hutt Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Rishworth), Councillors Hobbs, West, Hardy, Cotton, Macaskill, Mitchell, Guiness, Meldruni, and Knight. Mr. H. Baldwin wrote, stating that ho had resigned as tho council's representative on the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. On tho motion of tho Mayor the resignation was received with regret. , The town clerk, Eastbourne, wrote, nominating Councillor Hugh Black, to the vacancy on the Hospital Board rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. Baldwin. The' Mayor stated that Lower Hutt and Eastbourne were to agree on a representative. He moved that a conference be held between tho two councils, nnd the Mayor, Councillors Guiness, Mitchell, Hobbs, and Macaskill be the council's representatives. Mr. J. L. Arcus wrote, asking that the corner of Park Read at its juncture with Grncefield Road be widened to obviato damage to motor traffic. After hearing the engineer, it was decided to inform Mr. Arcus that Hie council considers tho corner safe if careful driving is adhered to. Tho Board of Trade wrote in reference to a proposed investigation of the dispute between Petone and Hutt Councils concerning gas matters.—lt was decided to take the matter in committee.

In connection with the widening of Victoria Street the town clerk was instructed to apply to the Native Land Court in reference to compensation. Motor 1 drivers' licenses were granted to •T. W. Clark and Cottrill Bros. It was decided to invite Mr. Birks to meet the Mayor and councillors to go into the matter of metalling electric light and power in the borough. Tho ranger reported having served notices on several properly owners' lo cut back hedges and repair fences. Twentyeight head of cattle had been impounded 6incc last report. '
