DISCOVERY IN WIRELESS
A message from New York states that Dr. Wcagant, tho chief, engineer of the American Marconi Company, has announced in a paper beforo the New York Electrical Society his discovery that "atmospherics," the aetheric waves produced by natural olectrical discharges, move at right angles to tlio waves that are set up when a wireless signal is radiated, and that they always follow a vertical direction from their source. It appears that Dr. Weagant'has followed up his discovery by the invention of means for eliminating theso static or atmospheric disturbances, which > he states have 6tood more in the way of practical long-distance radio-telephony than of radio-tolegrnpliy.—"Wireless Press."
Douglas Town Council have invited tho lioyal Automobilo Club to organise road races in tho Isle of Man during June or Soptcmbor. The council exnressed the view that the races in farmer years had been very beneficial to the' island. Mr. Thomas Burt, who is in his S2iitl year, in a letter thanking the Northumberland miners for a resolution appreciation of his -t!i years' service in Parliament, says his hope is that through copartnership and co-operation a more equitable and more harmonious industrial system may be established. Canada has now 30,000 miles of iailway, or one mile to every 210 of its population. The United States has an average of one mile to every 100 of the population,
