A DESCENDANT OF OLIVER CROMWELL
The R«v. Thomas Cromwell Bush, who died at Cample Hayo, Tavistock, Devon, recently, aged 68, held benefices for 6omo years 'in Somerset and Gloucestershire. In 1904 he moved to Bunvarton, Salop, and a few years ago retired, on account of ill-health, to- Dovonshiro. Mr. Bush was tho eldest son of the lato Rev. Paul Bush (died l.'IOi), for over fifty years rector of Duloe, Cornwall, and honorary canon of Truro, and Avarillp Oliveria Cromwell, his wife (died 1895), only oliild of Artemirodus Cromwell Ruesoil (died 1830). Mr. Russell was the eldest son of Thomas A. Russell, of Cheshunt Park, Hertfordshire, by his wife Eliza, beth Oliveria Cromwell (died 1849), only child of Olivor Cromwell, tlio last direct descendant of the Protcctor to hold the name. This Oliver Cromwell, who died in 1821, was a grcat-grcat-great-graJidson of the Protector. Mr. Bush leaves two eons, one in Holy Orders and tho other a lieutenant in tho Navy. •
Included in the sale of tho outlying portions of th.e Vaynol Estate in Carnarvonshire were several fields forming tho site of an ancient Roman fort, known as SoKontlium. The property, which is situated in Carnarvon, was sold to a syndicate of antiquaries, headed by Mr. Vi'iljoushby Gardiner, of Dogamvy, who intend excavating it in the liopn that it will throw light on early Welsh history from the first to the fourth centuries,
