LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

OUR MEN IN EGYPT

Sir,—.Reading an article in your paper of even date has given mo (he impression that unless the mounted men apply for leave to go to England, us far as the Government is concerned, they may stay in their present place of abode for Hie rest of their natural lives. Surely, as the men are at .present in the keeping of the Government, they know \\;!iat is happening to them or what- is likely to happen. Men camrit be stuck down in n country and left there. It is presumed the men are being provided for; if they are, who is doing it? The Government evidently know nothing about th.em.—l am, etc., MOUNTED. Sir. — Will 'you kindly allow me e< little of your valuable space to enter a. protest against the unjust treatment itow being meted out to tho mounted men in Egypt? These men have not only borng the brunt of battle against our enemies, but have also had to endure hardships in a vile climate under scorching suns, being stricken down with fever and disease, and then the authorities calmly tell us that they are unable to send them home. Wo ask, Why? We can cet tho transports, as was proved in one of your previous letters on this subject; " ami utill tho men remuin. Again we ask, Why? Sir, I consider if these men are to remain another summer, in such an abominable climate, then those in authority are each, one and all, responsible for their lives. Trusting come abler, pen than mine will give this matter the publicity it requires, and perhaps help to bring pressure on our noble Defence Department—l am etc., A SOLDIER'S WIFE.
