NOTES AND COMMENTS
[BY GLBNCOI:.]
The Wanganui meeting will be concluded to-day. The fields are much the same as on the opening day. Though raised 121b. for his Borough Handicap win, Demos may again appeal to backers as the best of the sprinters. Silver Link, who' meets him on nearly a stone better terms, may bo a lot of bother to him before the post is reached. Arrowfield is au unlikely starter in the Baigownie Hack Handicap, but the Fordell stable has a good representative ill Bayborry, and the English-bred one may be tho most fancied, as at Hnnera ho shaped better on the second day than in his first start. Cadet was finishing 011 well on Thursday, and the further distance to-day may suit him. The runners in the Grandstand Steeplechase include those that started on the opening day. The race may be between Master Strowan and Coalition, and with only 111b. between them tho top-weight may reverse the placings of Thursday. Gang Awa'. tho top-weight in the Hack Hurdles, ife having his first race sinco' August. He is not meeting a good lot, and generally raccs w'ell fresh, but Omahu. a halfrbrotlier to Tho Native, is on the upward grade, and lie and Kio may be In the places. The last-named competed in open company in February, and shaped well. The. May Hurdles has only drawn five acceptors. Euripos will havo plenty of supporters, but there will be support also for Whiro and Zola. Eewi Poto and Volo represent the best form in tho Empire Handicap. The pair are hoth euro to run well in what seems io be a weak field. Arrowfield is a fresh horse, and if in a generous mood ho should be up with the leaders at the finish. Bisingham got a l>ad passage on the first day. The Farewell Handicap looks like a, match between Post Haste wid Astinorne. The last-named has a substantial rise, but the distance is over two furlongs shorter than on the first day. Euddy is a fresh horsej as are Silver Tongue and Endure.
