Colonel T. Mill, Commandant of the Trentham Military Orthopaedic Hospital, who underwent a serious operation some weeks ago, is making an excellent recovery. ■ *
Dr. Eandall Woodhouse, tho newly appointed medical superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, is Vβ' leave England for New Zealand by the Tahiti on May 27. N ' ■
Mr. John Coyle, seoretary of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, who has been away on active service for about three years past, is returning to Wellington next month, and will resume his old duties. Mr. S. Eobinson has been performing the secretarial duties during Mr. Coyle's absence.
Sir William Williams, Director-Genera! of the Commonwealth Medical Services, whose death was announced Inst week, was born at Sydney in 1856, being the son of Dr. W. J. Williams, of that city. He was surgeon-major and principal medical officer with the Australian and New Zealand Forces in the South African, War. He wae later appointed Di-rector-General of tho Commonwealth Military Medical 1 Services, a • position which he had held for over 15 years at the time of his death. He was made a Knight of Grace of tho Order of St. John of Jerusalem in 1904.
Dr J E W. Sommerville, M.8., Ch.M., Edin', has been appointed to the vacancy on the Medical Board, under the Medical Practitioners Act, caused by the death of the lato Dr. W. C. W. M'Dowell, of Auckland.
Messrs. J. H. Enwright, W. H. M.lntyre, and C. G. Curtis have been appointed by the Government to be members of the Westport Hnrbour Board.
Mr A. C. Laing, of Wellington, has been appointed to the position of secretary of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers Association, his duties to commence as from June 1.
Mr T. L. Oswin, who has been connected' with the Valuation Department in Invorcargill for the past 21 years, and for 15 ycare haa been officer- in charge, has been transferred to Dunedin.
Dr W. J. H. Hielop has taken up the duties of aoting-medical superintendent! at the Wellington Public Hospital, pending the arrival of Dr. P. B. Woodhouse from .England. It is expected that Dr Woodhouso will leave England by the Tahiti, on May 27.
Commissioner Thomas Henry Howard, of the Salvation Army, who is arriving in Auckland from Vancouver next wee*, lms resigned the position of cluef-of-stall, which lie lms hole! since General Bramwell Booth succeeded to the hißUer office. Commissioner Higgins is now chior-of-siaft" of the Salvation Army.
Mr W. T. Gnrodr, of Masterton, forincriv 'headmaster of the Clyde Qtiay School, is at present visiting Wellington.
The Eev. Bruce Todd, who has. been iii charge of St. Duvid'e Presbyterian Church. Petono, for the past four and a half years, is retiring to take up an important position as secretary to the Home Missions of tho General Assembly.
