ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Victoria College Council was-lield last evening,. Mr. C. Watson presiding. Also present were: Sir Robert "Stout, Professors Sommomllo and Hunter, and Messrs. P..Levi, A. Iy. Atkinson, P. H. Bakewell, and P. W. 0. Smith. . Sir. C. Watson was unanimously reelected chairman. ' • On the motion of Mr. Bakewell it was decided to grant three Jacob , Joseph Scholarships this year and to allot them to Misses Salmon, punn, and Knight reanectively. /Upon the recommendation ot tno Finance and Business Committee, <it was decided to inform the Repatriation Department. that the council hail every sympathy with the idea: of helping returned roldiers, but as its income consisted chiefly of Government grants it regretted that it was impossible to accede to tho Department's reouest that returned soldiers be admitted for half fees. It was decided,to appoint temporary assistants, in philosophy, English, and biology at a cost not exceeding each. It was also decided to ask-Mr. Watson to undertake the work in criminal law in addition to that in evidence and procedure at ft salary or .£225. The whole question of assistants is to be considered again at the end, ot In' Accordance with the recommendation of the Professorial Board, the connoil decided to permit students to tako the followjng half courses for half fees.
