THE EASTERN TRADE. '"■With' the return of tho E. and A. mail •steamer Eastern to Sydney, recently there is every prospect of this well-known company, resuming running between Sydney and the East. When the need for tonnage for transport work from United Kingdom ports was so great ail the E. and A. liners which maintalned.il British service to the East were withdrawn. Tho Union Company's Mokoia arrived at Wellington yesterday in tho East Coast passenger service, in which run sho is temporarily relieving the Monowai, and sailod in the evening for Auckland, via Napier and Gisborne. The- vessel once more in the colours of her owners, after a long spell in grey presents a very Bmart appearance. While-at Port Chalmers tho Mokoia went through a thorough overhauling. The Union Company advises that the next passenger steamer to leave Australia for New Zealand will bo the Manuka.
