INNER HISTORY OF THE WAR

LORD FRENCH'S ARTICLES

THE SHORTAGE OF • MUNITIONS Hy TeleeraDh-Pres9 A<ssociation--Copyrign.t London, May 12 (delayed). Lord French continues his narrative in the "Daily Telegraph." He says: "1 impressed the War Offico on Septembcr--26, 1914, with our terrible deficiency in heavy artillery, and official correspond-' ence on this subject continued until June, 1915, when Mr. Lloyd George came to the rescue and entered on his career of patriotic salvation. Britons throughout the world will ever remember this distinguished statesman with the utmost gratitude as one of the greatest of tho Empire's sons. An awful responsibility rested upon him. He worked in tho face of the dead weight of a senseless but powerful opposition. I cannot adequately express niv sense of the valuable help received throughout from Mr. Churchill, who assisted me in sketching the plans for the offensive, with one flank towards the sea, although the subsequent fall of Antwerp effected a drastic change in the conditions. The plans were substantially tho same as took siiape early in 1515."— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. .QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT London, May 12 (delayed). Arising out of .Lord French's articles and his criticism of subordinates, ■ questions are being asked in the House of Commons whether the Government is prepared to permit officers holding commands to reply. _ Mr. Donar Law answered in the negative. Mr. AVinston Churchill later stated that the Army Council was in no way responsible for Lord French's articles. Tho Army Act distinguished between sbldioW who were serving and thoso in Lord French's position.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
