EASTBOURNE SOCIAL CLUB
The opening night of the Eastbourne Social Club's 1919 season was held on Saturday. Mr. W. 11. G. Bennett (president) presided over an attendance of about 200. As a result of the splendid entertainment provided 53 nominations for new members were received. This brings the membership well over the 100 mark. Among those contributing to the programme on Saturday were: The club orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr. Cimino; Air. Wilkinson and Mr. Hugh Wright. Captain Doorly, of tho ill-fated Apnrinin, held tho audience with an interesting talk of his experiences on convoy work. Mr. J. Ridler gave a delightful violin solo, and Mr. Gubben, a new arrival in the Bay, sang. Tho Cheer Oh Girls, consisting of Misses .Richardson, Gunn, Webb, l'riee, Wright, and Brown, presented a bright entertainment" each item being recalled. The olforts of these ladies helped materially to make the opening night a success. A daneo was held after supper.
